Dear Friends and Family,

My time in Tasmania has been just the best! Highlight of the Australian trip for sure. After finishing the Three Capes Trail down near Hobart, I spent the night in Hobart (meeting some wonderful people: Tom, Eric and Malachi) before heading to Launceston the following day on the Redline.

I arrived at the hostel and it was empty! It seemed to only be me and Swiss mountaineer/runner lady called Esme. She too was travelling through Australia and was in Tasmania for the day walks and the outdoors! She was super cool, and we had great conversations about quitting jobs, travelling and trail shoes. It was off season though, still only mid-Spring, so that must be the reason why this massive hostel was basically empty!

I booked my permit for the Overland Track and then spent the evening and following day in Launceston. I went and visited Cataract Gorge (impressive! And peacocks!) and had a look around Launceston. It was nice having a small, relaxing break after the Three Capes Trail!

I completed the Overland Track (wrote a separate story for that!), having a simply wonderful time! I enjoyed it so so much! I arrived back at the same hostel in Launceston with it just as empty as when I had left it. Due to the flooding in Victoria and stormy conditions on the Bass Strait, my ferry for Saturday 15th was cancelled and so I had a stressful afternoon sorting everything out, eventually booking a flight in the evening back to Melbourne. A shuttle from Launceston took me from the hostel to the airport where I sat and read for a long time, waiting for my flight. I flew out at 22:30, arriving in Melbourne at 00:00 and I got into my hostel at 01:30.

I have had the best time in Tasmania and I am really wanting to go back one day for sure. For now though, I have several days in Melbourne, seeing some people I have met (Kim and Lana, as well as Finn, all from the OT) before heading back to Sydney and then onto New Zealand on 25/10! Exciting times!

Love,

Al
